ReplyDeleteIt sounds like quite an under taking you are doing with DI. That is a hot topic with teachers since the NCLB act was put into effect. This is an act that makes our jobs next to impossible and I will argue that point. (although there aren't many takers) All we can do is our very best to try any means necessary to challenge the student to do the work in whatever way is humanly possible. I do hope you are able to uncover anyone who is not giving it there best. That is terrible for the students.
I am interested in what your research will reveal. Differentiated instruction is a hot topic at both ends of the spectrum--special needs and the gifted.
ReplyDeleteI thihk that DI done well can be very effective for our students, but I also see this as a solution to some of the money problems. At my school they have gone from a separate class for the gifted and talanted students to including them into other classes. I see how this help monetarily, but I also see the draw backs of not having these students off by themselves. Sometimes I see that they hold back in class discussions and things like that.
ReplyDeleteGood Topic. I took a class of differentiated instruction and it really opened my eyes. Differentiating Instruction in the Regular Classroom by Diane Heacox is a good book to look at. I had kids take a learning test to see what type of learner they are and based lesson plans on the class consensus. Good Luck
